I was able to celebrate the 70th anniversary of my foundation, Aoi-Marushin has been serving tempura on Asakusa Kaminarimon Street, right near the Kaminari gate of Sensoji temple, in an eight-story building. The secrets of Aoi-Marushin’s delicious tempura are high-quality sesame oil, an original sauce and the freshest seafood which the founder, a fish seller himself, assured was always of the finest quality.

Cafe Angelus’ European mountain lodge decor offers a relaxing atmosphere.
Established in 1946, Cafe Angelus is said to be the first coffee shop in Japan to serve cold-water drip brewed Dutch coffee. Also popular are Cafe Angelus’ plum Dutch coffee, made with homemade plum liquor, and homemade Angelus cake, available in chocolate and cream flavors.
Famous Cafe Angelus has even been featured in a popular computer game.

An satellite shop opened in 1980 by the Matoba Bean Paste Factory which, since 1924, has been producing a total of sixty types of bean paste, 25 of which are used to make Anpan bean paste buns sold at the Anpan shop.
Andes Matoba’s wonderfully mild sweet Goma Anpan (sesame and bean paste bun) and special seasonal Anpans attract die-hard fans all year round. The owner comes from a family who owned a bakery, and her husband takes personal charge of the factory.

Shin-Nakamise Sukiyaki Imahan Honten is a Sukiyaki restaurant located in the festive Nakamise area that has been operating since the Meiji period.
Its “Gyunabe” sukiyaki gained popularity after the restaurant moved from Kayabacho to Asakusa.
Enjoy the tender meat dipped in sweet warishita sauce, the same sauce that has been cooking continuously since this well-known restaurant was establishment. The Sukiyaki Set, available from 3,000yen, is a popular favorite.

This is a Japanese sweet shop that serves Awa-Zenzai made with smooth bean paste from Hokkaido red beans that cooks for half a day, and millet cakes from Okayama. The name “Umezono” was taken from the Umezonoin temple, a branch of the Sensoji temple, adjacent to which the sweet shop was first opened in the first year of the Ansei Period (1854). It was loved by novelist Kafu Nagai.
